Like the young girl pictured on the cover of the Spring/Summer 2015 issue, the 57 poets featured in this issue’s poetry section look out onto a view—and survey such diverse terrains as nightmare (Pablo Medina’s “The River Saint”), appetite (Sandra M. Gilbert’s “Annibale Carracci’s Bean Eater”), disorientation (Carolyn Supinka’s “The Way Back”), and identity (Colleen J. McElroy’s “Did I Know You Back Then?”). The issue also includes two culturally significant portfolios—“PINTURA : PALABRA, a project in ekphrasis,” guest-edited by Francisco Aragón of Letras Latinas, and our annual “World Poets in Translation” featuring the incantatory poetry of Iranian writer and peace activist Rira Abbasi translated from the Farsi by Maryam Ala Amjadi. It closes with an essay by Lesley Wheeler on speculative poetry and reviews of 11 recent books.
